What is sports physiotherapy?

Sports physiotherapy, sports physio or sports injury physiotherapy is a specialised field within physiotherapy. It is dedicated to the assessment and treatment of sports related injuries.

Your sports physiotherapist

Lisa is your lead sports physio at LS physiotherapy. Her experience in treating sports injuries started while studying for her physiotherapy degree.

In 2001 she was accepted into the Sport Medicine Masters course at Nottingham University's Queens Medical Centre. Her dissertation focused on the stability of the shoulder joint in relation to surgery and physiotherapy.

Experience and expertise

After completing her sports medicine degree, Lisa has improved her knowledge and skills in sports physiotherapy. This she acquired at a private hospital in Milton Keynes.

Working alongside surgical and specialist consultants, she performed pre-operative assessments and treatment. Her experience is in assessing injuries, and sports specific treatment whether the patients have had surgery or not.

Her experience is extensive in sport physiotherapy with over 20 years' experience. She's also proficient in treating soft tissue injuries like injuries of the knee, ankle, shoulder, hip, arm and spinal joints.

Treatment

Physiotherapy treatment involves the following:

  • Thorough objective assessment.

  • Physiotherapy treatment plan following the diagnosis

  • A rehabilitation programme including an exercise plan to complete between physio treatments.

Sports physiotherapy treatment

  • An initial assessment is 30 - 45 minutes and costs £50

  • Follow-up appointments are 30 minutes and cost £43
